LOCAL internet shopping faithfuls will next on Friday 27th November 2015 have an extravaganza as online shopping mall, Jumia partners with Ecobank Tanzania to bring home an American model of Black Friday.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Jumia Tanzania Country Manager, Jean-Philippe Boul and Ecobank ‘s Head of alternative channels, Eric Luyangi said an assortment of goods will be sold at throw away prices on the day.

Boul said prospective buyers will have to do so using Jumia website or Jumia App where mega discounts of up to 90 percent will be made in different goods but mainly electronic products.
“Be ready for unbelievable discounts! On 27th November a unique online flash sale event, Black Friday, will take place on Jumia Tanzania (www.jumia.co.tz), Black Friday, one of the most popular shopping events in the world, is all about deals and bargain hunting during only one day,” Boul said.
He said the maiden online shopping frenzy will run between Friday until Monday 30th November as the online shopping mall seeks to attract more local customers.
“Originally from the U.S. where it started more than 50 years ago, Black Friday, which takes place after Thanksgiving day, is now a well-known sales day both in the U.S. and Europe. People go mad for it,” Boul noted.

Jumia (www.jumia.co.tz) is the first online mall in Africa and is present in 11 countries including Tanzania and offers a wide range of merchandise from clothes, electronics such as phones and television sets. Jumia introduced Black Friday to the African market in 2013 through Nigeria and has since made it become the first and largest online shopping event of its kind on the continent
Commenting on reasons which have convinced Ecobank Tanzania partner with Jumia, Luyangi said the bank wants its clients to learn the art of buying cheap online so that they can save more.

“With its wide network and a wide range of advanced electronic offering Ecobank is the right partner and this cooperation will go beyond Black Friday, whereby Ecobank customers will be able to purchase merchandise on Jumia website at a special discount of rate,” Luyangi noted.
He said Ecobank’s mission is to bring services closer to all of its customers on the continent where it is present in 36 countries. Ecobank Tanzania is a subsidiary of Transnational Incorporated (ETI), a multinational bank headquartered in Lome, Togo. The banking giant has 1,200 branches on the continent.
Last year's Black Friday sales primarily focused on consumer electronics, with particular interest in digital products such as flat screen TVs, smartphone sand tablets. This year, Jumia predicts that it will also sell fashion and cosmetics too, with great deals falling by as low as 50 percent off.
Black Friday will also be a great occasion for Jumia Tanzania to launch InnJoo phones and tablet. InnJoo has already experienced massive success in the other Jumia markets and is now entering the local market for the first time.

“By tapping into this global shopping phenomenon, with the support of our partner Ecobank Tanzania, we have created a powerful event that our customers will love.” concluded Jumia Tanzania Country Manager, Boul
